Attributes: HSTE Health Studies: Traditions, Delivery, and Ethics, WDIV World Diversity

This interdisciplinary course examines Cuba's history, international relations, political structure, culture, and economy. The theme of healthcare permeates all course components. A one-week immersion in Cuba provides a cultural exchange opportunity from which you'll gain perspectives on non-Western ways of life. Activities in Cuba include daily lectures by Cuban scholars and policy makers on various health-related topics (universal healthcare, health tourism, medical internationalism, health innovations, reproductive health, etc.) and related site visits (hospital, primary health clinic, etc.) in addition to cultural events and sites. Students will develop an independent research project that culminates in a final presentation and paper.
